Lyric Dark and Grainy
Dark and Grainy
The Lyric Dark and Grainy filter is a stylizing effect that yields a luma-darkened, grainy image similar to certain kinds of low-key, high-grain film footage. You can control the darkening amount and the contrast in the dark areas, and the amount of grain noise added. The grain can be masked out of the highlight areas, to more accurately simulate film grain.
The Lyric Dark and Grainy filter includes a set of effect controls that are common across all Lyric effect filters. For a detailed description of these controls, please see the Common Effect Controls documentation.
Additionally, all Lyric Effect filters can be applied through mattes or masks to constrain the filter effect to particular areas of the image. For background information on mattes and masks, please refer to the Lyric Matte Primer.
The Darkness and Darkness Contrast sliders control the overall darkening by performing level and contrast shifts in the luma channel only, leaving the chroma channels untouched. Increasing Darkness values shift luma levels towards the shadows and increasing Dark Contrast values spread the highs & lows in the luma channel.
The Grain Level slider sets the grain-noise density and the Grain Luma Mask controls how aggressively the grain is masked out of the highlight areas. Increasing the Grain Luma Mask removes the grain from broader highlight ranges, simulating the film grain behavior. Checking Static Grain stops the grain from randomly changing from frame-to-frame.
The Effect Controls section is a set of common controls that are documented on the Common Effect Controls page. They can be used to achieve masked and other specialized filter effects.
