Lyric Midtones Matte
The Lyric Midtones Matte produces a matte that selects the mid-tone areas in a scene. You can can control the midtone center, range and rolloff.
This matte is most commonly used as a filter mask, allowing a color-correction or special effect to be applied just to the mid-tone areas of a scene, or when inverted, to protect the midtones from some effect.
The Lyric Midtones Matte filter includes a set of matte and output controls that are common across all Lyric matte filters. For a detailed description of these controls, please see the Matte Common Controls documentation.
For background information on mattes and their uses in Final Cut, please refer to the Lyric Matte Primer.
The Midtone Center control sets the center brightness level for the matte, the Midtone Range sets the range of brightness levels around the center level that are included in the matte selection and the Midtone Rolloff sets the level smoothness at either end of the tone range. Higher center values selects brighter areas.
The matte is often used to protect the midtones from some later effect, which is achieved by check the Invert checkbox in the Matte Control section.
The Matte Control and Output sections are common controls that are documented on the Matte Common Controls page.
